Abstract

Stroke is still a dominant disease in Indonesia, especially in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. Stroke is an aging disease, where the majority of stroke occurred on post 65 years old. However, study regarding to the relationship of age and the quality of life of a post-ischemic stroke patient has yet been researched sufficiently and its result may vary. Through this study, we will discuss about the relationship between age and the quality of life of a post-ischemic stroke diagnosed patient at Bethesda Hospital Yogyakarta. This study is a retrospective cohort research conducted by using stroke patients at the Bethesda Yogyakarta Hospital. The data consists of 107 patients with the age span between 43 and 78 with the highest age proportion on the data are in the age span between 51 and 70 years old. Independent t-test and Spearman's rank test indicates that there is no relationship between age and quality of life. Chi-square and Fisher's exact test indicates that the initial NIHSS score correlates with psychological domain (RR: 0.423; 95% CI: 0.232-0.773; p: 0.008), and the atrial fibrillation condition correlates with social relation domain (RR: 3.709; 95% CI: 2.090-6.582; p: 0.012). There is no correlation between age and quality of life by which is measured by WHOQOL-BREF questionnaire. However, a correlation was found between the domain of psychological health with the initial NIHSS score and in the domain of social relations with the condition of atrial fibrillation.
