Abstract

Covid-19 is an acute respiratory tract infection (ARIs) caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2). Breastfeeding women are at risk to suffer severe Covid-19 when infected by SARS-CoV-2, hence Covid-19 vaccination is very important for this population. The purpose of this study was to determine the level of knowledge of breastfeeding women about the Covid-19 vaccine in Pekanbaru City and its association with vaccination status. This was a cross-sectional analytical study that involved 216 breastfeeding women recruited in five health centers in Pekanbaru City. Their knowledge about Covid-19 vaccine was measured using a validated questionnaire. Of the 216 breastfeeding women, 95 respondents had received at least one dose of vaccination (43.9%) with Sinovac being a predominant type of vaccination (72.7%). A total of 113 subjects (52.3%) demonstrated good knowledge whereas 103 of them (47.7%) had poor knowledge about Covid-19 vaccine. Further, the level of knowledge among breastfeeding women showed a significant association with Covid-19 vaccination status (p= 0.02). In conclusion, Covid-19 vaccination status of breastfeeding women in Pekanbaru City is significantly associated with by their levels of knowledge.
